**Is There a Flag Ceremony in Islam?**
Shaykh Al-Albani, may Allah have mercy on him, was asked:
*What is the ruling on standing in front of the flag? And what is the ruling on stopping movement and standing upright for the flag when the national anthem is played?*
He answered:
*There is no doubt that this is one of the European traditions of the disbelievers, and we have been forbidden to imitate them with both general and specific prohibitions. It is not permissible for a truly Islamic state to adopt any of the traditions of the disbelievers. However, it is up to those who have the authority to not allow it. Undoubtedly, the Muslim ruler, who has no higher authority above him in this world, is the one who can change and replace these disbelieving traditions and customs with Islamic ones.*
*As for those who are employed or soldiers and have no choice but to follow this system that deviates from Islam, this situation reflects the different levels of people (in terms of faith), as the Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever among you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; if he cannot, then with his tongue; and if he cannot, then with his heart, and that is the weakest of faith." We know that many such issues occur in some Islamic countries because they are matters of imitating foreign traditions, as we have said.*
*For example, in some Arab Islamic countries, soldiers are not allowed to keep their beards. People are at different levels as mentioned in the hadith: most people today when they enter the military shave their beards because that is the system. Some do not shave them, but they are forced to shave them against their will. A few others—and this is very rare, with examples in Jordan and Syria—stand firm and are patient, enduring torture and imprisonment, etc., and then Allah grants them victory, so you see them as bearded soldiers, while thousands of others are without beards. Thus, the issue is related to the strength of faith in the person according to his ability. The person who is assigned to salute the flag with this un-Islamic salute can certainly refuse, but he knows that imprisonment, torture, and possibly other things that we do not know await him.*
*A believer with strong faith will be patient, and after patience comes victory as Allah has promised the believers. For others who cannot be patient, they are forced to salute the flag even though their hearts reject this salute. Therefore, we must understand that this is an evil, and whoever is forced to do it must at least reject it in his heart because "there is no faith left after that, even as small as a mustard seed," as is known in some authentic hadith narrations.*
Question: *Does merely standing in front of the flag invalidate Tawhid (monotheism)?*
Answer: *Yes, it invalidates Islam, Sharia, and Islamic manners.*
*"On the Day when all mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds" [Al-Mutaffifin: 6].*
*This is a form of veneration similar to the veneration of idols because this flag is just a piece of cloth. However, this is blind imitation of European traditions, which is very unfortunate!!*

**Есть ли в Исламе церемония подъёма флага?**
Шейха Аль-Альбани, да смилуется над ним Аллах, спросили:
*Каково положение стояния перед флагом? И каково положение остановки движений и стояния прямо перед флагом при исполнении национального гимна?*
Он ответил:
*Нет сомнений, что это одна из европейских традиций неверных, и нам запрещено подражать им как в общих, так и в частных случаях. Недопустимо, чтобы истинно исламское государство перенимало какие-либо традиции неверных. Однако всё зависит от тех, кто имеет власть, чтобы не допустить этого. Несомненно, мусульманский правитель, у которого нет начальства над ним в этом мире, — тот, кто может изменить и заменить эти неверные традиции и обычаи на исламские.*
*Что касается тех, кто работает служащими или солдатами и не имеет другого выбора, кроме как следовать этой системе, отклоняющейся от Ислама, то эта ситуация отражает различные уровни (веры) людей, как сказал Пророк ﷺ: "Кто из вас увидит зло, пусть изменит его своей рукой; если не сможет, то своим языком; если не сможет, то своим сердцем, и это самое слабое проявление веры." Мы знаем, что подобные проблемы возникают во многих исламских странах, потому что это вопрос подражания иностранным традициям, как мы уже говорили.*
*Например, в некоторых арабских исламских странах солдатам не разрешается носить бороды. Люди находятся на разных уровнях, как упоминается в хадисе: большинство людей сегодня, когда поступают на военную службу, бреют бороды, потому что такова система. Некоторые не бреются, но их заставляют бриться против их воли. Иные — а это очень редкие случаи, с примерами в Иордании и Сирии — стойко держатся и терпят, перенося пытки и тюрьмы и т.д., а затем Аллах дарует им победу, и вы видите их солдатами с бородами, тогда как тысячи других без бород. Таким образом, этот вопрос связан с силой веры человека в соответствии с его способностями. Тот, кому поручено отдать честь флагу с этим не-исламским приветствием, без сомнения может отказаться это делать, но он знает, что перед ним тюрьма, пытки и, возможно, другие вещи, о которых мы не знаем.*
*Верующий с сильной верой будет терпелив, и после терпения приходит победа, как Аллах обещал верующим. А для других, кто не может терпеть, они вынуждены отдавать честь флагу, хотя их сердца отвергают это приветствие. Поэтому мы должны понимать, что это зло, и кто вынужден это делать, должен, по крайней мере, осуждать это в своем сердце, потому что "после этого не останется веры, даже такой маленькой, как горчичное зерно", как известно в некоторых достоверных хадисах.*
Вопрос: *Нарушает ли простое стояние перед флагом единобожие?*
Ответ: *Да, это нарушает Ислам, шариат и исламские нравы.*
*"В тот день, когда все люди будут стоять перед Господом миров" [Аль-Мутаффифин: 6].*
*Это форма почитания, похожая на почитание идолов, потому что этот флаг — всего лишь кусок ткани. Однако это слепое подражание европейским традициям, что очень печально!!*
