WHAT ARE THE VIRTUES OF FRIDAY?

بسم الله الرحمٰن الرحيم

Friday is a very special day in Islam, endowed with numerous virtues based on the Qur'an, hadith, and the opinions of early scholars (*salaf*). Here are some virtues of Friday along with their evidence and scholarly explanations:

### **1. The Best Day of the Week**

The Prophet ﷺ said:
> *"The best day on which the sun rises is Friday. On this day Adam was created, on it he was admitted into Paradise, and on it he was expelled from it. The Hour will not occur except on Friday."*
(Narrated by Muslim, no. 854)

### **2. Sins Are Forgiven Between Two Fridays**

The Prophet ﷺ said:
> *"Whoever bathes on Friday, then comes to the Friday prayer, listens to the sermon attentively, and remains silent, his sins between this Friday and the next will be forgiven."*
(Narrated by Al-Bukhari, no. 883)

### **3. Recommended to Recite Surah Al-Kahf**

The Prophet ﷺ said:
> *"Whoever recites Surah Al-Kahf on Friday, he will be given light between the two Fridays."*
(Narrated by Al-Hakim, 2:399; authenticated by Al-Albani in *Sahihul Jami'*, no. 6470)

### **4. A Special Time for Supplication to Be Accepted**

The Prophet ﷺ said:
> *"Indeed, on Friday there is a specific time during which, if a Muslim stands in prayer and asks Allah for something, He will grant it."*
(Narrated by Al-Bukhari, no. 935; Muslim, no. 852)

Scholars differ on when this special time occurs. The well-known opinions include:
- The time between the sitting of the preacher (khatib) until the completion of the Friday prayer.
- The time after Asr until Maghrib.
(Reported by Imam Ahmad and supported by Ibn Qayyim in *Zaadul Ma'ad*).

### **5. A Day Designated for Friday Prayer**

Allah ﷻ says:
> *"O you who have believed, when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on Friday, proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave trade. That is better for you, if you only knew."*
(QS. Al-Jumu'ah: 9)

### **6. A Day Full of Virtues**

Ibn Qayyim Al-Jauziyah mentioned in *Zaadul Ma'ad*:
> *"Friday is the most virtuous day of worship compared to other days, just as Ramadan is the most virtuous month compared to others."*

### **Statements of Early Scholars**
- **Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him)**: *"Friday is the weekly Eid for Muslims."*
- **Al-Hasan Al-Basri**: *"If a person dies on the night or day of Friday, he will be protected from the trial of the grave."* (Narrated by Tirmidhi, no. 1075; authenticated by Al-Albani).

Friday is a precious opportunity to increase good deeds, such as praying, making supplications, reciting the Qur'an, and sending abundant blessings (*salawat*) upon the Prophet ﷺ.
